4th of September 2019 – The NNPC/Newcross Exploration and Production Limited (NewcrossEP) Joint Venture (JV), held its first scholarship award ceremony at Hago Heights Hall, Port Harcourt. This CSR initiative was aimed at improving education in host communities and simultaneously strengthening our relationship with key stakeholders.

The joyous occasion, was graced by over 500 guests from across the country, and 134 beneficiary students comprising of 80 Secondary school students, 26 undergraduates and 28 post-graduates, who were all handed scholarship certificates. From the 134 beneficiaries, 9 students (3 from each category) were awarded special gifts due to their outstanding performance at the scholarship exams.

In attendance at the ceremony was the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Energy, representing the Executive Governor of Rivers State, Permanent Secretary Ministry of Education, Chairmen of Akuku-toru and Degema, LGAs , Rivers State House of Assembly members, Kings and Chiefs from our various host communities.

A member of the Public Affairs Department of NNPC, Mrs Clementina Arubi, was also in attendance, while NewcrossEP was well represented by staff from Lagos and Port Harcourt offices.

The print and electronic media; Bloomberg, The Nation, Vanguard, News Direct, Nigeria Info and Rhythm 93.7 FM were all well represented at the event. The event was repeatedly aired on radio stations for 3 days, prior to the occasion.

Due to security reasons, bank drafts and gift bags were distributed to beneficiaries in the office the following day, 5th of September, in order to prevent any disruptions during the official ceremony.

NewcrossEP is happy to report a very successful event. We look forward to more actions that show commitment to one of our key stakeholders – host communities.
