Our Operations
EXPLORATION AND PRODUCTION
Newcross Exploration and Production Limited (NewcrossEP) is an independent domestic Oil and Gas exploration and production company based in Nigeria. NewcrossEP was established in 2013 and emerged as the successful bidder of OML 24, acquiring a 45% participating interest in the block hitherto managed under the NNPC/SPDC/TOTAL/NAOC Joint venture arrangement.
Acquisition transaction closed on November 1, 2014, with. Operatorship granted on December 31, 2014. After a 3-month transition period, NewcrossEP became operator of the assets on February 1, 2015.
The OML 24 asset covers over an area of 162. Sq.km and it is located onshore western Nigeria Delta, about 40km South-West of Port Harcourt. There are three producing fields in the block and these are Awoba, Awoba North West and Ekulama Fields.
Producing Fields
Awoba Field
The Awoba field is located about 40km south-west of Port Harcourt and straddles OMLs 18 and 24. It is bounded by the Ekulama field in the East and by a major fault in the north. The first well Awoba-1 which was drilled in 1965 was off-structure and was subsequently abandoned. The field was discovered by Awob-002 in 1981. It came on stream in May 1992, producing through the 40,000 bpd capacity Awoba flow station. A total of ten wells (9 conventional, 1 sidetrack) have been drilled in the field to date.
Awoba North West Field
The Awoba NW field is located in central part of OML 24 and it lies on the same structural trend to the east of Ekulama field in the West, Krakama and Cawthorne Channel fields in the East. The geological structure is located 3.5 km northwest of the Awoba field. The field was discovered in 2001 by Awoba NW1, that encountered hydrocarbons in four sands.
Ekulama Field
The Ekulama Field is a mature oil field located in the western part of OML 24. It was discovered in 1958 and put into production in 1972. Forty oil wells have been drilled in the field till date with three currently abandoned. Most of the oil wells are dual string completed and flowing naturally.
Our Facilities
NewcrossEP has 4 major facilities:
- Ekulama I Flowstation
- Ekulama II Flowstation
- Awoba Flowstation
- Awoba Gas Plant
Ekulama I Flowstation
Ekulama I Flow station was commissioned in 1972 and was designed and built to run in an unmanned, automatic mode of operation; employing pneumatic instrumentation logic for control and shutdown in a fail-safe manner. It is built on a swamp piled foundation. The facility is a single bank, two-stage (High pressure-HP, and low pressure- LP), two-phase liquid/gas separation installation. The nominal production capacity of the flow station is 30Mbpd.
Ekulama 2 Flowstation
The Ekulama 2 Flow station was commissioned in January 1972 and is designed to run in an unmanned automatic mode of operation pneumatic instrumentation logic for control and shutdown in a fail-safe manner. It is built on a swamp piled foundation. The facility is a double bank, two-stage (High pressure and Low pressure), two-phase liquid/ gas separation station. The nominal production capacity of Ekulama 2 stations is 60,000 bpd.
Located adjacent the Ekulama 2 Flow station is a Field logistics Base (FLB) for field employees consisting of facilities such as a sick bay, kitchen and restaurant, to name a few.
Awoba Flowstation
The Awoba facility, also known locally as Bille-2 flow station was commissioned in May 1992 and is designed to run unmanned, fully automatic mode of operation, employing pneumatic instrumental logic for control and shutdown in a fail-safe manner. The facility is a single train, three-stage (XHP, HP and LP), two-phase oil/gas separation station with approximately 40,000 bpd capacity.
Awoba Gas Plant
The Awoba gas plant is also located on the Awoba facility. The plant is a Tri-ethlene Glycol (TEG) plant with a 55 mmscf/D capacity, designed and built in 2004 to treat associated gas from the flowstation to meet gas export dew point pipeline specification.
Located in the Awoba field is a House Boat for field employees consisting facilities such as a sick bay, gym, kitchen and restaurant, to name a few.
Oil produced from all 3 NewcrossEP flow stations are transported via pipeline – Nembe Creek Trunk Line (NCTL) to the closest tank farm – Bonny terminal.
